Snowy Roads, DUI Arrest, and Hit-and-Run Mark Busy Day for Wyomissing Police

Police News

WYOMISSING, PA — Wyomissing Police officers responded to a wide range of incidents throughout January 19, 2026, as winter weather and routine enforcement combined to produce a busy day across the borough, according to a department incident log released this week.

Police activity began shortly after midnight with multiple traffic stops along Penn Avenue and State Hill Road. Officers cited one driver for unsafe speed and issued warnings in separate stops for failure to maintain a lane, a rear lighting violation, and expired registration.

More serious enforcement followed around 1:37 a.m. on the West Shore Bypass near North Wyomissing Boulevard, where officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. During the stop, police allege the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The individual was transported to central processing for chemical breath testing, and charges are expected to be filed.

Later in the early morning hours, Wyomissing police assisted Mohnton Borough officers with an alleged theft-from-vehicle investigation on Wyomissing Avenue. Officers located a suspect at a nearby motel parking lot, but police report the individual fled on foot and was not apprehended.

Throughout the day, officers responded to multiple burglar alarm activations on Woodland Road, State Hill Road, and Cardinal Road. Each alarm was ultimately determined to be canceled or false, with no signs of forced entry found.

Winter conditions contributed to several traffic incidents as snow fell across the borough. Police documented multiple non-reportable motor vehicle accidents on Hill Avenue, Berkshire Boulevard near Papermill Road, and Route 222 at Crossing Drive, all resulting in no reported injuries. A reportable two-vehicle crash on Woodland Road near Crossing Drive sent one driver to Reading Hospital for evaluation, while another accident on Old Mill Road involved a vehicle striking an embankment and being towed from the scene.

Officers also handled a hit-and-run crash on Cambridge Avenue during the evening hours. The allegedly involved vehicle was no longer on scene when police arrived, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Additional calls included reports of disorderly conduct at a hotel on Papermill Road related to a vehicle towing dispute, multiple 911 hang-up calls later determined to be accidental, welfare checks, and medical assists. In one incident on Deborah Drive, police assisted emergency responders with a male suffering from dementia who was reportedly acting aggressively and was transported to a hospital for care.

Wyomissing Police emphasized that all incidents remain subject to further investigation where applicable. Any individuals referenced in connection with alleged criminal activity are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The department recorded a total of 24 incidents during the 24-hour period, reflecting what police described as a typical but demanding winter day for patrol officers across the borough.
