AVONDALE, PA — State police in Avondale reported a run of incidents across southern Chester County in early and mid-February, including multiple assault investigations, reported fraud cases and a cluster of crashes blamed on snow- and ice-covered roads.
Police reported several investigations involving alleged assaults and domestic-related incidents.
Troopers said they were dispatched February 6 to Avon Grove Charter School in London Grove Township for a report that a 13-year-old student allegedly punched a 12-year-old student. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
That same day, police reported responding to Avon Grove High School in Penn Township for a reported physical altercation between students. Troopers said the investigation was pending.
In New London Township on February 6, troopers reported taking a complaint at the barracks involving an alleged assault earlier that day. Police listed a 71-year-old Lincoln University man as the victim and said the investigation remained active.
Police also reported a domestic disturbance call on February 6 at CHOP Primary Care in West Marlborough Township. Troopers said a 44-year-old Kennett Square man was issued a non-traffic citation for harassment after he allegedly slapped a 42-year-old Chadds Ford woman during an argument.
Additional domestic-related investigations were reported February 12. In East Nottingham Township, troopers said they responded to Waterway Road for a reported physical domestic incident and that appropriate charges would be filed. In West Nottingham Township, police reported responding to the 200 block of Park Road for a “domestic in progress” call, with the investigation handled by PSP Avondale.
On February 19 in East Nottingham Township, troopers reported responding to a residence along Baltimore Pike for a dispute involving a child custody matter. Police said the argument allegedly became physical and that a 25-year-old Oxford man was charged with harassment via a non-traffic citation filed through District Court 15-3-05.
Police also reported a series of theft- and fraud-related investigations.
On February 7 in Upper Oxford Township, troopers said they were dispatched to Old Limestone Road for a report of bank fraud involving approximately $10,000 in transactions tied to a 33-year-old Oxford man. The investigation was pending, police said.
On February 19, troopers reported investigating an identity theft complaint on Waterway Road in East Nottingham Township. Police said a fraudulent letter was mailed to a 27-year-old Oxford resident referencing a claimed debt to a company identified as “Nuvei,” and the investigation was ongoing.
On February 24, troopers reported being dispatched to the barracks lobby in London Grove Township for a theft-by-deception complaint involving $1,595 from a 31-year-old Coatesville man. Police said the investigation was pending.
Police also reported a vandalism investigation in Highland Township. Troopers said they responded February 5 to Avon Grove Intermediate School, where a 2014 Subaru Outback was reportedly damaged.
In another February 24 incident, troopers reported responding to Old Stottsville Road in Highland Township for a report of a suspicious person. Police listed Verizon as the victim in the case and reported multiple arrests following further investigation. Additional details were not provided, and police said the case remained under investigation.
Traffic incidents and crashes were also reported across the coverage area, with several reports noting slippery conditions.
Troopers reported a February 8 investigation in Lower Oxford Township after a traffic stop on U.S. 1 southbound. Police said the 21-year-old Millsboro, Delaware driver was found to be allegedly impaired and that the investigation was ongoing.
Several crash reports cited snow-covered roadways and drivers losing control. Police reported a February 20 crash in East Marlborough Township on Village Lane near East Baltimore Pike, where a driver turning into a Wendy’s parking lot struck another vehicle that was stopped behind it. Troopers said no injuries were reported and citations were issued.
Police also reported a February 22 crash on East Street Road in East Marlborough Township, where a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Troopers said the occupants reported suspected minor injuries but refused EMS and the vehicle was towed.
On February 23 in Highland Township, police reported a two-vehicle crash on Limestone Road north of Freeman Road involving a Ford pickup and a Honda CR-V. Troopers said no injuries were reported and the vehicles were removed from the scene.
In Chadds Ford Township on February 23, troopers reported a crash involving a state police vehicle on U.S. 202 near Dilworthtown Road after the patrol vehicle struck a patch of slush. Police said the trooper was not injured and the vehicle sustained functional damage.
On February 24 in Highland Township, troopers reported a single-vehicle crash on Gum Tree Road where a Honda Pilot struck a utility pole. Police said the driver reported no injuries and the utility company was notified.
Police noted that several investigations remained active and that information could change as additional investigative details emerge.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
