Shots Fired Incident Shakes Atglen as Police Take Armed Man Into Custody

PARKESBURG, PA — A tense police response to reported gunfire in Atglen Borough ended with a man in custody and multiple officers injured, following an hours-long incident that prompted authorities to warn residents to stay clear of the area.

According to the Parkesburg Borough Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:51 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to the 400 block of Main Street in Atglen Borough after receiving reports of shots fired. Police initially advised residents to avoid the area as officers worked to secure the scene.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 34-year-old man, identified by police as Jon Marcos Muniz, on the roof of a second-floor apartment while allegedly armed with a handgun. Authorities allege that Muniz fired into two occupied apartments and threatened the safety of responding officers. Police said Muniz also barricaded the front door of his apartment during the incident.

Officers engaged Muniz in an effort to protect nearby residents and ultimately took him into custody. Police confirmed that no members of the public were injured during the incident. However, authorities reported that four officers were treated at a medical facility as a result of the response. An earlier update from police indicated that two officers were injured, with subsequent information clarifying that four officers ultimately received medical treatment.

Muniz was transported to Central Booking at the Chester County Prison pending arraignment. He faces multiple charges, including five felony counts of aggravated assault, four felony counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, nine misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, one misdemeanor count of possessing an instrument of crime, and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Police announced at approximately 8:45 p.m. on January 6 that the suspect was in custody and that the scene was being processed. A final update issued at 1:05 a.m. on January 7 stated that the scene had been cleared and released by authorities.

The Parkesburg Borough Police Department was assisted during the incident by the West Sadsbury Township Police Department, the East Fallowfield Township Police Department, and the Chester County Detectives.

All charges and allegations described by police remain allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
