NEWARK, DE — A 65-year-old man from Long Island, New York, is facing multiple charges following a burglary reported in Newark on Saturday, May 25, 2025.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., Newark Police officers responded to a residence in the unit block of South Chapel Street after receiving a 911 call from a witness who observed an unknown individual entering the home.
Police arrived at the scene and found the suspect, identified as Darryl Dunlap, in front of the residence. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigators determined that a window on the property had been shattered, allegedly by Dunlap using a mailbox. Items belonging to the residents were discovered in his possession.
The New York resident has been charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief Under $1,500, and Theft Under $1,500. Dunlap was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held on a $6,100 secured bond. A no-contact order with the City of Newark was also issued, and he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
