AVONDALE, PA — A wide range of traffic crashes, arrests, and criminal investigations kept Pennsylvania State Police troopers in Avondale busy over several days in mid-to-late January, according to a comprehensive incident report released this week.

The report details multiple motor vehicle crashes across Chester County, several involving allegations of unsafe driving, roadway departures, and collisions at intersections, along with separate criminal incidents that resulted in arrests.

One of the more serious crashes occurred on Friday, January 17, 2026, in Penn Township, where a collision on Route 796 north of Baker Road involved two vehicles and multiple occupants. Police allege one driver attempted a left turn across traffic and was struck by another vehicle traveling northbound. Several passengers were transported to area hospitals with injuries of unknown severity, while others refused transport. Troopers reported both drivers received citations as a result of the crash.

Another crash on January 17 in London Britain Township involved a single vehicle rollover on Flint Hill Road south of Good Hope Road. Police allege the driver lost control after encountering ice on the roadway, causing the vehicle to cross into the opposite lane, strike an embankment, and roll onto its roof. The driver was treated for injuries at the scene by emergency responders.

In a separate London Grove Township incident that same day, troopers allege a driver lost control while traveling west on Woodview Road near Chatham Road, striking a bridge railing after failing to negotiate a curve. No serious injuries were reported.

The report also documents a January 11 crash in Pocopson Township on Route 52 near North of Wayne Drive, where police allege a vehicle crossed the center line and struck another car head-on. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were not injured, though disabling damage was reported to both vehicles. One driver was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Beyond traffic incidents, troopers reported arrests stemming from unrelated criminal investigations. In New Garden Township, police arrested Jose Alcantara-Alonso, 28, of Coatesville, following a traffic stop on Newark Road on December 31, 2025. Troopers allege Alcantara-Alonso was taken into custody and transported for processing before being released pending further proceedings.

In West Marlborough Township, police arrested a 36-year-old man from Augusta, Georgia, following a reported domestic-related incident on Tapeworm Road on December 23, 2025. Troopers allege the suspect was involved in a physical confrontation that resulted in injuries before fleeing the scene. The individual was later taken into custody.

Additional crashes documented in the report include incidents in Franklin Township, Highland Township, and West Marlborough Township, many involving allegations of unsafe speed, failure to stop, or loss of vehicle control due to roadway conditions such as slush or ice. Several drivers were cited, and in some cases passengers were treated at hospitals for minor or suspected injuries.

Police emphasized that all investigations remain ongoing and that crash determinations and criminal charges are based on preliminary findings.

All charges and allegations referenced in the report are accusations only. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
