Robber Threatens Wawa Clerk, Escapes With Cash in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred early Friday morning at a convenience store in New Castle.

Troopers responded around 5:00 a.m. on March 13 to the Wawa located at 1515 North Dupont Highway after receiving a report of a robbery, according to state police.

Investigators said an unknown male suspect allegedly entered the store, approached a clerk, and demanded money.

According to authorities, when the clerk initially did not comply, the suspect allegedly walked behind the counter and continued demanding cash while acting as if he was armed with a weapon. Police reported the clerk then complied and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The clerk was not injured during the incident, police said.

Investigators reported the suspect fled the area and entered a dark-colored SUV waiting on North Dupont Highway before leaving the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate the robbery.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
