Retail Thefts Surge Across Plymouth Township as Police Detail 81 Incidents

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — Plymouth Township police documented 81 alleged retail theft incidents over a three-week period in December, detailing a wave of reported shoplifting cases that spanned major shopping corridors and involved thousands of dollars in merchandise, according to the department’s latest Retail Theft Round Up.

The incidents occurred between December 11 and December 31, 2025, with cases reported at large retail destinations including Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, REI, Boscov’s, Ulta Beauty, Barnes & Noble, Burlington, Wawa, and Home Depot. Police said 57 cases were cleared by arrest, 20 remain under active investigation, three involve active arrest warrants, and one case was cleared without prosecution.

According to the report, on December 11, officers alleged that a 34-year-old Philadelphia woman stole merchandise valued at approximately $155 from Dick’s Sporting Goods along Germantown Pike. Two days later, police allege a 19-year-old Philadelphia man took nearly $380 in merchandise from the same store, an incident that was later cleared by arrest.

Target on Chemical Road accounted for a significant number of reported cases. Police allege that a 73-year-old Plymouth Meeting resident was involved in five separate retail theft incidents at the store, with total losses exceeding $250. In another Target case, a 31-year-old Philadelphia man was charged following four alleged thefts valued at more than $2,400, police said.

Higher-value thefts remain under investigation. On December 15, police reported an alleged theft of more than $1,000 from the REI store on Ridge Pike. A separate incident at Boscov’s on Germantown Pike on December 20 involved merchandise valued at approximately $1,100, with investigators still working to identify a suspect.

Police also documented several incidents involving juveniles. Multiple alleged thefts reported at Target on December 26 and December 30 involved minors, with individual incidents ranging from $75 to more than $280 in merchandise. Those cases were handled in accordance with juvenile procedures, police said.

Three cases remain tied to active arrest warrants. One involves an alleged theft of $440 from Target on December 27, in which police identified a 60-year-old Norristown man as the suspect. That warrant remains outstanding.

The department noted that descriptions and images of persons of interest are available for several unresolved cases and encouraged community members to review the information and submit tips. Investigators emphasized that tips may be provided anonymously.

All criminal conduct described by police remains alleged. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
