WYOMISSING, PA — A winter storm backdrop set the stage for a busy Saturday for borough police, as officers responded to a string of alleged retail thefts, multiple traffic incidents, and a late-night DUI investigation, according to the Wyomissing Police Department’s activity report for January 17, 2026.
Police logged 23 separate incidents throughout the day, beginning shortly after 1:30 a.m. with an automatic fire alarm on Park Road North. Officers determined the alarm had been accidentally removed from the wall by a resident, and the fire department handled the call without further issue.
As snowfall intensified through the morning hours, officers were dispatched to several non-reportable motor vehicle crashes along Old Mill Road, Reading Boulevard, and Route 222. Police reported no injuries in those incidents, though heavy snow made it difficult to determine fault in at least one crash. A disabled vehicle was also found in a ditch along Route 222 and was assisted back onto the roadway.
Midday calls included reports ofreckless driving and a suspicious person along Reading Boulevard and Route 222, though officers were unable to locate any involved individuals upon arrival.
Retail theft complaints accounted for several afternoon and evening responses. Police were dispatched multiple times to businesses along State Hill Road. In one case shortly after noon, officers determined the reported theft was a civil matter. Later in the day, officers documented another alleged retail theft in which suspects had already left the scene, and a separate evening incident involving merchandise valued at approximately $80 remained under follow-up investigation.
Additional calls included a canceled burglar alarm on Gail Circle, a report of a dog running loose near Reading Boulevard and Wyomissing Boulevard, and a tow company notification related to vehicles removed due to snow conditions.
Traffic enforcement continued into the evening, with officers issuing warnings for alleged violations including improper lane use, window tint issues, expired registration, and lighting violations. One traffic stop on Park Road North resulted in citations after officers determined the driver allegedly had no valid license.
Late in the evening, police assisted West Reading officers during a traffic stop on Penn Avenue. Shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers initiated a vehicle stop on Wyomissing Boulevard near Penn Avenue that led to a DUI investigation. Police reported the driver was transported for a legal breath test, a juvenile passenger was released to a parent, and the vehicle was towed. The DUI investigation remained under follow-up.
The day concluded with quality-of-life calls, including a loud music complaint on Woodside Avenue that was resolved without enforcement and a welfare check on Woodland Road involving a seven-year-old child who briefly wandered outside. Police confirmed the child was uninjured and safely returned to his mother.
All criminal activity referenced in the police log represents allegations and remains subject to investigation. Any individual identified as a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
