WYOMISSING, PA — Wyomissing Police handled 84 calls for service between February 27 and February 28, including a retail theft arrest, a police pursuit tied to a $10,000 theft investigation and multiple traffic citations for racing and suspended licenses, according to the department’s incident listing.
In one of the more significant cases, officers were dispatched at 9:54 a.m. February 27 to Crossing Drive for a reported retail theft involving $546.92 in merchandise. According to the police log, the suspect had allegedly stolen merchandise from the same location on a prior occasion. Police reported the suspect was identified and arrested.
Later that afternoon, at Wyomissing Boulevard and Parkside Drive North, officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a school bus. Police stated there were no reported injuries and that a crash report would be completed.
At 10:47 p.m. February 27, officers initiated a traffic stop on Route 222 near Penn Avenue after observing several vehicles allegedly speeding and stopping traffic before racing. According to the report, the operator was cited for racing, speeding 82 mph in a 55 mph zone, driving without insurance and failing to stop for lights and sirens. Police also reported recovering suspected marijuana from a passenger under Pennsylvania’s Act 64.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. February 28, Wyomissing Police assisted Spring Township officers in searching for a theft suspect connected to approximately $10,000 in stolen merchandise. According to the department log, the vehicle was located but allegedly fled from officers, and the pursuit was terminated.
Officers also responded to two motor vehicle crashes on February 28, including a reportable accident on Route 222 at Ramp K in which one vehicle was towed. Police stated there were no reported injuries.
Throughout both days, police addressed repeated burglar alarm activations on Berkshire Boulevard, many of which were determined to be false alarms or canceled after proper verification.
Other notable incidents included a reported structure fire on Sturbridge Court that was handled by the Wyomissing Fire Department, two responses to possible propane leaks on Garfield Avenue, multiple disorderly conduct calls and a domestic dispute between two males on Park Road North.
Traffic enforcement accounted for a substantial portion of activity, with officers issuing citations and warnings for speeding, suspended licenses, lack of insurance, lighting violations, stop sign infractions and other moving violations across locations including Park Road North, State Hill Road, North Wyomissing Boulevard and Penn Avenue.
Police also conducted welfare checks, responded to medical emergencies, investigated 911 hang-up calls and processed several school bus stop-arm violations approved through the BusPatrol system.
The department’s listing reflects a range of calls for service spanning public safety, traffic enforcement and emergency response during the two-day period.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
