Police Seize Crack Cocaine, Cash in Morning Drug Arrest in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington police arrested a city man Thursday morning following an investigation that officers say led to the recovery of crack cocaine and cash during a targeted enforcement operation.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were conducting patrols in the 800 block of Kirkwood Street at approximately 9:49 a.m. on December 18 when they observed a man allegedly engaged in drug-related activity. Officers made contact with the individual, identified as 44-year-old Rahsaan Cherry, and took him into custody without incident.

Police said officers subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant for Cherry’s vehicle, which was located in the 600 block of East 9th Street. During the search, investigators reported recovering approximately 18.5 grams of crack cocaine and $580 in U.S. currency.

Cherry was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in a Tier 2 quantity, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia not related to personal use quantity. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and released after posting $26,200 secured bail, police said.

Authorities did not release additional details about the investigation, which remains ongoing.

All charges are allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
