Police Pursuit, Fraud Reports, and Crashes Mark Busy Day in Wyomissing

WYOMISSING, PA — Wyomissing police responded to more than 20 calls for service over a 24-hour period on Friday, January 24, ranging from traffic stops and vehicle crashes to fraud reports, a brief pursuit, and multiple public safety calls, according to the department’s daily incident log.

Police activity began shortly after midnight with a non-reportable two-vehicle crash on Penn Avenue at approximately 12:15 a.m. Officers reported minor damage and no injuries, and both vehicles remained operable. About an hour later, police attempted to assist Exeter Township officers in serving an emergency protection-from-abuse order on Penn Avenue, but the subject was not located.

In the early morning hours, officers conducted a traffic stop for speeding near Route 222 and State Hill Road at approximately 3:57 a.m., issuing a citation. Police also responded to multiple 911 hang-up calls on Delaware Avenue between 4:44 a.m. and 5:05 a.m., including one call in which crying was reportedly heard in the background. Officers reported no answer at the door and no visible signs of an emergency in either case.

Later in the morning, police again attempted to serve a PFA order on Penn Avenue near Reading Avenue at approximately 8:26 a.m., but the involved party was not on scene. At 10:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to Museum Road for a report of an odor of burnt plastic. The incident was turned over to the Wyomissing Fire Department, which handled the situation.

Police received multiple fraud reports during the midday hours, including incidents on Penn Avenue shortly after noon and on Bern Road around 2:48 p.m. In both cases, officers obtained information and indicated follow-up investigations were pending.

At approximately 12:25 p.m., police responded to a reportable crash on Papermill Road in which a vehicle struck a tree and two parked cars. The driver was transported to Reading Hospital, and the vehicle was towed. Additional non-reportable crashes were handled later in the day on Berkshire Boulevard, with officers reporting no injuries and information exchanged between drivers.

In the afternoon, officers responded to a disorderly conduct complaint on State Hill Road around 2:27 p.m., resolving the matter without further incident. Police also documented an abandoned vehicle along Route 422 near a ramp shortly after 4:30 p.m., initiating the abandoned vehicle process.

The most serious incident of the evening occurred at approximately 6:28 p.m., when officers initiated a traffic stop on Route 222 near Crossing Drive for speeding and an active warrant associated with the registered owner. Police allege the driver fled, leading to a brief vehicle pursuit. The incident remains under investigation.

Evening calls included assistance to a motorist who was lost on Reading Boulevard, additional 911 hang-up responses, traffic stops for stop sign violations, and multiple reports of suspicious activity that were determined to be unfounded. Police also responded to a reported fight on Berkshire Boulevard shortly after 9:30 p.m. Officers reported that no physical contact occurred and no further police action was requested.

Late in the night, police completed service of an emergency PFA order on Penn Avenue and removed a previously identified abandoned vehicle from Route 422 due to a snow emergency.

All incidents involving suspected criminal conduct, traffic violations, or enforcement actions are allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
