Police Investigate Newark Shooting in Liberty Square Complex

NEWARK, DE — Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Liberty Square apartment complex in Newark. Police were dispatched to the unit block of Earlington Lane at approximately 3:43 a.m. following multiple reports of gunfire.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 32-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower extremity. A responding officer quickly applied a tourniquet and provided first aid until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is currently in stable condition.

While canvassing the area, officers discovered that several vehicles in the complex’s parking lot had been struck by gunfire, leaving visible damage. At this time, no suspects have been identified, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Detectives from the New Castle County Police Department’s Major Crimes and Evidence Detection Squads are leading the investigation. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the case.
