WILMINGTON, DE — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one person injured Thursday afternoon in Wilmington.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:57 p.m. on September 18 to the area of West 2nd and North DuPont Streets for reports of gunfire. A 24-year-old male victim later arrived at a hospital in stable condition with gunshot wounds.
Police said that while investigating, officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle. A short time later, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled. The vehicle was eventually located near Oak and South Broom Streets, where officers took Travon Norton, 24, into custody without incident. A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered during the investigation.
Norton has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, unlawful imprisonment, and disregarding a police officer’s signal. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $420,000.00 cash-only bail.
Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations, and Norton is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
