Police Arrest Man After Alleged Assault on DART Bus Driver at Peoples Plaza

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police have arrested a 22-year-old Philadelphia man after an alleged assault on a DART bus driver Thursday afternoon in the bustling Peoples Plaza shopping center.

Troopers responded to the scene on December 4 at approximately 1:00 p.m. after receiving a report that a DART operator had been assaulted. According to investigators, the bus driver had been returning to her vehicle from a nearby business when a man, later identified as Larry Bryant, began following her, causing her to feel unsafe. Police say the driver asked Bryant to stop, and when he refused, she attempted to call 911.

Investigators allege that Bryant struck the driver in the face before fleeing the area. The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Troopers later located Bryant inside a theater at Regal Cinemas, where he was arrested without incident. Police also determined he had entered the theater without paying.

Bryant was taken to Troop 2 and charged with second-degree assault causing injury to a public transit operator, a felony, along with theft of services under $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond.

All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
