WARRINGTON, PA — A Philadelphia man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted a shopper and fled the scene following a parking lot altercation at a Warrington Aldi.
According to the Warrington Township Police Department, the incident occurred on November 4, 2025, at the Aldi located at 100 Easton Road. Officers responded to reports of both an assault and a hit-and-run.
Police said the suspect, identified as 68-year-old Michael Edward Smith of Philadelphia, allegedly became agitated because another shopper was taking too long to load her vehicle. During the encounter, Smith reportedly directed a racial slur toward another individual. When the victim confronted him, telling him his comments were offensive, Smith allegedly grabbed her by the arms and squeezed, causing pain and discomfort.
Investigators said the victim reported fearing for her safety. Smith then entered his vehicle and struck two parked cars before leaving the scene.
He was later stopped by Upper Southampton Police in Huntingdon Valley, where Warrington officers responded and took him into custody. Smith was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, and related charges. He processed at the Warrington Township Police Department and was subsequently released.
Authorities emphasize that all charges are allegations and that Smith, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
