HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a McConnellsburg man has been sentenced to up to four years in state prison after being convicted of strangling his girlfriend during a domestic dispute last year.
Nicholas Hendershot, 24, was found guilty by a Fulton County jury of felony strangulation following testimony that detailed a violent altercation inside the couple’s home.
According to court records, the incident began when Hendershot and the victim, his girlfriend at the time, argued over his installation of a surveillance camera to monitor her while he was at work. The dispute escalated, and Hendershot grabbed the victim by the neck, applying a tight grip in front of their two young children. The victim testified that she began losing consciousness before Hendershot released her. She immediately called for help and reported the assault to the Pennsylvania State Police.
Troopers responding to the scene observed red marks around the victim’s neck and noted that her face was bloody.
“Abuse of a partner crosses every moral, personal, and legal line,” Attorney General Sunday said. “Thanks to the bravery of the victim to testify against her abuser, the defendant is now facing the consequences of his cruel actions.”
The case was referred to the Office of Attorney General by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. It was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Julia Van Leeuwen and Senior Deputy Attorney General Jaime Keating.
