WYOMISSING, PA — A 71-year-old woman died Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle near the entrance to a shopping center along State Hill Road, according to Wyomissing police.
Police reported that officers were dispatched around 1:15 p.m. on March 6 to State Hill Road at the entrance to the Berkshire Square Shopping Center for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
According to investigators, officers arrived and found Eugenia Polonski, 71, of Reading, who had been struck by a 2015 Lexus SUV. Police said the vehicle was driven by Margo Lemke of Molina, Illinois.
Authorities reported that Polonski was transported to Reading Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Police said the Pennsylvania State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the investigation. State Hill Road between Berkshire Boulevard and Colony Drive was closed while investigators examined the scene and reopened around 4:00 p.m., according to police.
After consulting with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, police reported that Lemke was cited for duties at stop signs under Section 3323(b) of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.
Police said Lemke later appeared before Magisterial District Judge David Yoch and pleaded guilty to the citation.
Wyomissing police said they were assisted at the scene by the West Reading and Spring Township police departments, the Wyomissing Fire Department, Western Berks EMS, and fire police from multiple jurisdictions.
