LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA — Authorities are investigating a mass shooting that left one person dead and six others injured late Saturday night during homecoming celebrations at Lincoln University in Chester County.
According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies responded to reports of gunfire on campus shortly after the incident occurred. The shooting took place during homecoming festivities, drawing a large crowd of students, alumni, and visitors to the historic university.
As of early Sunday morning, investigators confirmed that seven individuals were struck by gunfire, one of whom succumbed to their injuries. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending family notifications. The other six victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
A Chester County District Attorney spokesperson stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with multiple law enforcement agencies — including the FBI — assisting in evidence collection and witness interviews.
Authorities confirmed that one individual has been detained after being found in possession of a firearm. However, officials have not yet confirmed whether that person is a suspect or if additional individuals may have been involved. Investigators are working to determine how many shooters may have been present.
The university was briefly placed on lockdown following the shooting. That order has since been lifted, and police said there is currently no active threat to the campus community. The area around the university remains an active crime scene as detectives continue to process evidence.
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office emphasized that official updates will be issued through their office as new information is confirmed. Anyone with information, eyewitness accounts, or video footage related to the shooting is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
All individuals detained or identified in connection with this incident are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
