OXFORD, PA — Oxford police say a welfare check earlier this month escalated into a confrontation that left one officer injured and resulted in multiple allegations against a local man now facing court proceedings.
According to the Oxford Police Department, officers were dispatched on October 5 to the 300 block of Nottingham Avenue to check on the well-being of Derrick Lowe, 41, of Oxford. Police reported that Lowe agreed to be transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation intended to clear him for needed treatment. Authorities stated that Lowe then left the hospital against medical advice, prompting officers to transport him back to the police department.
Police said Lowe was informed he was free to leave and that no further assistance could be provided. At that point, according to the department, Lowe allegedly threw a bottle of water at an officer. When officers attempted to take him into custody, police stated that Lowe resisted and fell to the ground, resulting in an officer injuring his hand during the struggle.
Lowe was processed and transported to Chester County Prison, where he was arraigned and held on $10,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing was held on October 28 at Oxford District Court, where all charges were ordered to proceed to the Court of Common Pleas.
Lowe is facing allegations including assault of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, harassment involving physical contact, and aggravated assault for allegedly attempting to cause bodily injury to a designated individual.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
