Newark Woman Charged After Alleged Drug Deal Caught by Undercover Wilmington Officers

WILMINGTON, DE — A Newark woman is facing a felony drug charge following her arrest in Wilmington’s downtown area earlier this week, according to city police.

On August 5, 2025, at approximately 2:17 p.m., officers with the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division were conducting enforcement activity near the intersection of 7th and Washington Streets. According to investigators, officers observed a woman engaged in what appeared to be illegal drug transactions.

The woman, identified as 28-year-old Maya Howard, was taken into custody without incident. Police report they recovered approximately 0.6 grams of crack cocaine during the arrest.

Howard has been formally charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $5,000 cash-only bail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.

As with all criminal proceedings, the charge against Maya Howard is considered an allegation. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
