NEWARK, DE — A Wilmington woman is facing a series of serious charges after she was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with an altercation involving a firearm at a Newark restaurant.
According to the Newark Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South College Avenue at approximately 1:03 a.m. on June 29, following a report of a disturbance involving a weapon inside a dining establishment.
When officers arrived, they encountered 28-year-old Deja Thompson of Wilmington, who was detained at the scene. Investigators determined that Thompson had allegedly engaged in an argument with another individual inside the restaurant. During the dispute, she is accused of physically grabbing the person by the neck.
Witness accounts indicated that Thompson was seen holding a handgun and pointing it in the direction of a crowd gathered inside the establishment. Authorities later discovered that Thompson had hidden the firearm under a vehicle in the restaurant’s parking lot. Officers were able to recover and secure the weapon without further incident.
Thompson was subsequently taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and offensive touching.
Following her arrest, Thompson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #11. She was assigned a $70,000 cash bail and issued a no-contact order regarding the victim. She is currently being held at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution under the supervision of the Delaware Department of Correction.
It is important to note that all charges are allegations, and Thompson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
