Newark Police Arrest Wilmington Man After Alleged Assault and Robbery

NEWARK, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he assaulted and robbed another individual during an early-morning confrontation outside a South College Avenue business.

According to the Newark Police Department, officers responded to the 1100 block of South College Avenue at approximately 1:32 a.m. on November 7, 2025, for a reported robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Jordan Maness, had confronted a man in the parking lot and made statements suggesting he was going to retrieve a firearm.

Police said Maness briefly left the area, entered the business, and then returned to the victim before allegedly assaulting him by punching and strangling him. During the altercation, Maness reportedly took personal items from the victim before fleeing. The victim declined medical treatment.

Investigators obtained detailed descriptions of both Maness and his vehicle. A short time later, officers located the vehicle leaving the area and conducted a traffic stop, taking Maness into custody without incident.

Maness was transported to Newark Police Headquarters and later arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2. He has been charged with first-degree robbery for causing physical injury to a non-participant and strangulation. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $70,000 cash bail.

Authorities emphasize that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
