Newark Man Arrested in Wilmington After Police Recover Loaded Handgun

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a 33-year-old Newark man after officers say they recovered a loaded firearm during a vehicle stop earlier this week.

According to police, the incident occurred on August 20, 2025, at approximately 2:52 p.m., when members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the area of Lancaster Avenue and North Rodney Street for a report of a person with a gun.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a stop in the 1200 block of Lancaster Avenue. Police say the driver, identified as Devante Carhee, was taken into custody without incident. A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered during the investigation.

Carhee has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Authorities remind the public that all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
