PHILADELPHIA, PA — A New Jersey man was sentenced Monday to 25 months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman seated next to him on a commercial flight to Philadelphia, federal prosecutors said.
Vernon Baker, 41, of Linden, was also sentenced to one year of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Baker pleaded guilty in December 2025 to one count of abusive sexual contact on an aircraft following his indictment in January 2025.
According to court filings, the incident occurred October 30, 2024, on a flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia.
Prosecutors said Baker made unwanted sexual advances toward a female passenger seated next to him and, after she refused, exposed himself and attempted to force her to touch him.
He also grabbed the victim over her clothing and attempted to remove her clothing, according to the filing.
The victim reported the incident to flight attendants after moving to the rear of the aircraft, authorities said.
The case was investigated by the FBI, the Federal Air Marshal Service and the Philadelphia Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Davison and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Meagan Gordon prosecuted the case.
