BEAR, DE — Delaware State Police have charged a New Castle man with vehicular homicide and multiple traffic violations following a two-vehicle crash in Bear on Sunday that left one woman dead and another man injured.
According to investigators, the collision occurred on September 28, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m. A Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 46-year-old Omar Mendoza, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 40 near Fir Avenue when it entered a crossover, failed to stop at a stop sign, and crossed diagonally into the westbound lanes. Police said the vehicle then collided head-on with a Suzuki motorcycle, ejecting both riders.
The passenger of the motorcycle, a 44-year-old woman from New Castle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of family. The motorcycle’s operator, a 36-year-old Bear man, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mendoza also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a hospital before being taken into custody.
Following his release from medical care, Mendoza was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving without a valid license, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and failure to obey a traffic control device. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $10,250 cash bond.

All charges are allegations. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
