New Castle Man Arrested After Loaded Handgun Found During Traffic Stop

WILMINGTON, DE — A 37-year-old New Castle man has been arrested after New Castle County Police say they discovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop near the Edgemoor communities.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m. Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Active Crime Trend Team were conducting proactive patrols when they initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Durango along Edgemoor Road near Interstate 495 for a traffic violation.

During the stop, police identified the driver as Keith Wilson. Investigators say probable cause was established to search the vehicle, leading to the discovery of a loaded .380-caliber handgun concealed inside. Further investigation allegedly revealed that Wilson is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Wilson was taken to New Castle County Police headquarters and charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (felony), carrying a concealed deadly weapon (felony), and failure to signal.

Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, Wilson was released on an $8,050 unsecured bail.

Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
