Nearly 9 Months Later, Bear Robbery Suspect Surrenders

BEAR, DE — A 20-year-old Middletown man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last May in a Bear shopping center parking lot, according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers said they responded at approximately 2:15 p.m., May 19, 2025, to the Salem Center at 1693 Pulaski Highway for a report of an armed robbery.

According to police, the victim was involved in an argument with a suspect in the parking lot when a second suspect allegedly approached and displayed a handgun. Authorities allege the two suspects then worked together to take the victim’s vehicle and fled the shopping center in it.

Detectives from Troop 2’s Criminal Investigations Unit identified Calvin Williams and Daviel Aviles as suspects and obtained arrest warrants, police said. Williams was taken into custody on May 30, 2025, when detectives and members of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at his residence, according to authorities.

Police said Aviles turned himself in at Troop 2 on February 19, 2026. He was charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy.

Aviles was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $20,500 cash bond, police said.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
