PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia police are investigating a suspicious death after a 93-year-old man was found with fatal injuries inside a North Philadelphia residence on Friday, raising urgent questions about what unfolded in the hours leading up to his death.
Officers responded to the 4500 block of North 16th Street shortly before 3:00 p.m., where they located the unresponsive victim with lacerations to his chest and head. Medics pronounced him dead at 3:05 p.m. Authorities say the circumstances remain unclear, but the injuries prompted detectives to classify the case as a suspicious death while the investigation continues.
Police also discovered that the man’s wallet, car keys, and vehicle were missing. Detectives believe the victim’s white 2007 Chrysler 300, bearing Pennsylvania license plate GRJ-5294, may play a central role in unraveling what happened. The Homicide Unit is actively searching for the vehicle and urging the public to come forward with information.
Authorities warn that anyone who spots the vehicle or a potential suspect should avoid approaching and instead contact 911 immediately. Tips can also be submitted confidentially by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Individuals with information relevant to the case are asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or 215-686-3335. Detective O’Brien (#628) is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing as police work to determine the events that led to the man’s death.
