WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington police say a routine traffic stop late last week escalated into a drug-related arrest after officers allegedly discovered a significant quantity of marijuana and suspected packaging materials.
According to authorities, members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division conducted a vehicle stop at approximately 11:54 a.m. on January 16 in the 3000 block of Northeast Boulevard in connection with an alleged vehicle violation. Officers reported making contact with 31-year-old Demetrius Jones, who was taken into custody without incident.
Police allege that during the stop they recovered approximately 9.5 ounces of marijuana along with packaging paraphernalia that investigators said is commonly associated with the distribution of controlled substances.
As a result, Jones has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, in addition to multiple traffic citations. Authorities emphasized that the charge is based on allegations stemming from the evidence recovered during the encounter.
Jones was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released on $3,100 unsecured bail, police said.
All charges are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
