WILMINGTON, DE — A months-long investigation into alleged large-scale narcotics trafficking led to the arrest of a Wilmington man this week after detectives seized more than 135,000 pills, a loaded handgun, and cash from his home, according to New Castle County Police.

Detectives from the county’s Drug and Human Trafficking Investigations Team, working with Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, launched the case in July 2025 after uncovering evidence that prescription medications were being shipped into the country and redistributed through the U.S. mail. Investigators allege that 45-year-old Maury Moody was ordering large quantities of prescription pills from overseas and reselling them throughout New Castle County and beyond.

Police executed a search warrant on November 17 at Moody’s residence in the 1900 block of Seneca Road in the Canby Park Estates neighborhood. Inside his bedroom, detectives reported recovering an extensive quantity of medication, including Schedule IV controlled substances such as Tramadol, Pregabalin, Carisoprodol, Zolpidem, Diazepam, Ksalol, Clonazepam, and Zopisign. Investigators also seized 17,190 Tapentadol pills, listed as a Schedule II controlled substance, along with 221 Sildenafil tablets.

According to authorities, the search also yielded a loaded .25-caliber handgun with a spent casing in the chamber and $3,600 in suspected drug proceeds hidden in the home.

Moody was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with multiple felony offenses, including possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, several counts of possession of controlled substances, and one count of delivering a prescription drug not classified as a controlled substance. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $30,500 unsecured bail.
