BROOMALL, PA — Marple Township Police responded to 16,449 calls for service in 2025, a 5.4% increase from the prior year, while total reported crimes declined to 403, according to the department’s 2025 Annual Report.
The report states that officers averaged approximately 1,370 calls per month, with March recorded as the busiest month and November the least active.
Of the 403 crimes documented under the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting program, 195 were classified as Part I offenses — considered more serious crimes — and 208 were Part II offenses . Part I offenses include violent crimes and major property crimes.
Police reported clearing 268 cases in 2025, resulting in 278 arrests and a clearance rate of 66.5%, according to the annual statistics.
Crime Breakdown
The report indicates theft remained the most frequently reported offense, accounting for 153 incidents in 2025. Other Part I offenses included three robberies, 20 assaults, five burglaries, 12 auto thefts, one attempted homicide and one rape. No murders were reported during the year.
Among Part II offenses, police documented 36 fraud cases, 30 drug law violations, 32 DUI arrests and 26 criminal mischief incidents. Additional offenses included 16 receiving stolen property cases and 15 forgery cases.
Department Operations
The department began 2025 with 32 sworn officers, along with civilian administrative staff. One sergeant retired during the year, and the department initiated hiring to fill the vacancy.
Patrol operations continue on 12-hour rotating shifts, providing 24-hour coverage year-round, while the Detective Division consists of four detectives and one sergeant responsible for follow-up investigations and evidence management.
Traffic Enforcement and Specialty Units
The department’s traffic safety officer conducted 161 motor vehicle stops and 402 traffic enforcement details at more than 100 locations throughout the township in 2025 . Officers also reviewed 2,384 school bus violation submissions during the 2024–2025 school year, approving approximately 70% for enforcement.
Evidence and Records
According to the report, the department’s evidence custodians managed 681 items submitted into evidence from 332 cases in 2025. The main evidence room houses more than 2,685 pieces of evidence .
Police also handled 602 Right-to-Know requests during the year, each independently reviewed for compliance with state open records law.
Use of Force and Pursuits
The department documented 22 incidents involving some level of force applied to 25 individuals in 2025, representing a decrease from the previous year. Two incidents involved Taser deployments. The report states none of the incidents met the FBI’s reporting threshold for use of force.
Police were involved in 20 vehicle pursuits during the year. Thirteen were terminated by officers due to safety considerations, six ended as a result of crashes or disabled vehicles, and one concluded following the deployment of a tire deflation device. Twelve arrests were made in connection with those pursuits.
Juvenile Activity and Community Programs
The department recorded 42 juvenile offenses in 2025. Of those, 15 were petitioned to juvenile court and 25 were referred to the Youth Aid Panel diversion program.
The annual report also details the School Resource Officer program, which places a full-time officer within the Marple Newtown School District, as well as the C.O.P.E. drug prevention program for students.
