DELAWARE CITY, DE — A 22-year-old Delaware City man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a fatal shooting on Monday morning that claimed the life of 39-year-old Craig Anderson, according to the New Castle County Division of Police.
On July 7, 2025, at approximately 9:27 a.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Fifth Street within the Delaware City Trailer Park. Upon arrival, officers found Anderson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Anderson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators determined that Anderson had been involved in a dispute with Shane Brank, 22, shortly before the shooting. During the altercation, Brank allegedly retrieved a firearm and fired multiple rounds at Anderson before fleeing the area.
In response, a large-scale coordinated search was launched, involving patrol officers and specialized units including the K9 Unit, Mounted Unit, Traffic Services Unit, Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team, Active Crime Trend Team, SWAT Team, Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit, and the Crime Analysis Unit.
Officers combed terrain along the C&D Canal, nearby wooded areas, and surrounding neighborhoods. After several hours, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Brank was located hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 200 block of Seventh Street in Delaware City. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Brank was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with first-degree murder (felony) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (felony). He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $560,000 cash bail.
Detectives continue to seek additional information related to this incident. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact Detective Cevallos at (302) 395-8129 or via email at Gino.Cevallos@newcastlede.gov.
