PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday, March 26, to possessing a firearm while unlawfully in the United States, federal prosecutors said.
Harshpreet Singh, an Indian national, entered the plea before U.S. District Judge Catherine Henry in connection with an incident investigated in Berks County, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Singh had been charged by indictment in October 2025.
According to court filings, the case stems from an August 28, 2024, incident in Bethel Township, when Pennsylvania State Police and Bethel Township officers responded around 1:17 a.m. to a reported shooting tied to a home invasion.
At the same time, dispatchers received a report of a gunshot victim at a nearby gas station less than half a mile away.
Officers found a man, identified in court documents as A.S. and charged in a separate case, inside a vehicle at the gas pumps with a gunshot wound to the torso. Singh and a co-defendant were also inside the vehicle, authorities said.
After the victim was transported to a hospital, officers canvassed the area and recovered two firearms in a gravel lot across the street: a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with 12 rounds and a privately manufactured firearm without a serial number loaded with 17 rounds.
A third firearm, a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol loaded with 13 rounds, was recovered in the yard of the residence where the home invasion was reported.
Forensic testing identified a DNA mixture from four contributors on the firearms, with Singh included as a potential contributor, according to prosecutors.
Singh is scheduled to be sentenced on July 9. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Bethel Township Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rosalynda M. Michetti.
