WILMINGTON, DE — A month-long investigation into a January shooting that left a dog wounded has led to the arrest of a 44-year-old Wilmington man, police said, after detectives allegedly recovered firearms and narcotics during an encounter and subsequent search warrant.

Wilmington Police reported that members of the department’s Gun Intelligence Unit had been investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred January 25 in the 1100 block of Lombard Street. According to police, the gunfire resulted in a dog being shot.

Through the course of that investigation, detectives identified Stephen Selby, 44, as a suspect.

On February 10 at approximately 10:11 a.m., detectives observed Selby in the 1100 block of Lombard Street placing property into a vehicle. Police allege that as detectives approached and made contact with him, Selby dropped a bag and a loaded 9mm handgun fell from it. He was taken into custody without further incident, and the handgun was recovered, authorities said.
