Magnet Mystery: Walmart Theft Suspect Accused of Using Tool to Bypass Security

MORGANTOWN, PACaernarvon Township Police arrested an 18-year-old man last week after store employees at the local Walmart alleged he attempted to leave the store with a cart filled with unpaid merchandise and provided false identification during the encounter.

According to the Caernarvon Township Police Department, officers were dispatched at 9:06 p.m. on November 20, 2025, to the Walmart at 100 Crossings Boulevard for a reported retail theft. When officers arrived, they met with employees and the suspect, identified as Adrian Zahit-Ericson.

Store personnel told police that Zahit-Ericson was observed walking past all points of sale with a shopping cart containing merchandise valued at $675.34. When confronted, the suspect allegedly claimed to be a 17-year-old juvenile and gave false personal information. Officers say that after further questioning, Zahit-Ericson admitted he was 18.

During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered two Walmart plastic shopping bags, a razor, and a “Brute Magnetics” magnet. Store employees reported that the magnet may have been used to manipulate or disable security tabs attached to merchandise.

Zahit-Ericson was taken into custody on November 21, 2025, and charged with retail theft and possession of an instrument of crime.

Police emphasize that all offenses listed are allegations, and any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
