Loaded Gun Recovered: Newark Man Arrested After Wilmington Foot Chase

WILMINGTON, DE — A 20-year-old Newark man has been arrested on multiple gun-related charges after Wilmington police responded to reports of an armed individual on the city’s west side.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on August 19, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West 12th Street following a report of a person armed with a gun.

Police say responding officers located a suspect matching the description provided by a caller. The man, later identified as Ra’shawn Owens, allegedly fled from officers but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Handgun

Investigators report that a loaded .22-caliber handgun and additional ammunition were recovered at the scene.

Owens has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released after posting $1,550 secured bail.

Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
