WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington police say a delayed report of a robbery ultimately led officers to a suspect and an arrest following a brief investigation that unfolded across several city blocks.
According to police, a member of the Uniformed Services Division responded at approximately 2:49 p.m. on January 28 to the 500 block of North Walnut Street after receiving a late report of a robbery. Officers made contact with the victim, who told police the alleged robbery had occurred the previous evening, January 27, around 6:00 p.m. in the 300 block of East 8th Street.
Investigators said the victim provided a description of the suspect, prompting officers to respond to the area where the incident was reported to have occurred. Police said they made contact with 24-year-old Albert Washington in the 300 block of East 8th Street. Following further investigation, Washington was identified as the alleged suspect in the robbery.
Washington was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Authorities charged Washington with first-degree robbery and criminal mischief under $1,000. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $60,100 cash-only bail.
All charges are allegations. Washington is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
