Late-Night Pursuit Ends in Arrests After Frightening Carjacking in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested three male juveniles following an alleged carjacking and brief pursuit late Saturday night, according to information released by the department.

The incident began around 10:24 p.m. on December 6, when officers responded to a report of a carjacking in the area of West 28th and North Monroe Streets. Police say the stolen vehicle was located a short time later near East 9th and North Lombard Streets, where officers attempted a vehicle stop. The driver allegedly fled, and the vehicle was later found abandoned in the 300 block of East Lea Boulevard.

According to police, three juvenile males fled the area on foot. Moments later, officers located all three juveniles in the same block and took them into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.

The juveniles were each charged with several offenses, all of which remain allegations. Police also noted that one of the teens faced additional traffic citations.

A 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with:

  • Robbery (First Degree)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree)
  • Resisting Arrest

He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and released on $25,000 secured bail.

A 17-year-old male juvenile was charged with:

  • Robbery (First Degree)
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree)
  • Resisting Arrest

He was arraigned and released on $12,500 secured bail.

A 15-year-old male juvenile was charged with:

  • Robbery (First Degree)
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree)
  • Resisting Arrest

He was also arraigned and released on $12,500 secured bail.

As in all criminal matters, a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation continues as detectives review evidence connected to the alleged carjacking and subsequent pursuit.
