Late-Night Chaos at Newark Royal Farms: Woman Attacked, Suspect Arrested Days Later

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man in connection with a late-night robbery that occurred outside a Newark convenience store over the weekend.

According to investigators, troopers were dispatched to the Royal Farms located at 457 Stanton Christiana Road on October 4, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., following a report of a robbery. When officers arrived, they learned that a woman had been sitting outside the store when a man allegedly approached her, assaulted her, and stole her belongings before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police later identified the suspect as 45-year-old Tony Hammond of Wilmington. Investigators determined that Hammond was known to the victim, and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

On October 7, 2025, troopers took Hammond into custody and transported him to Troop 2, where he was charged with one count of second-degree robbery, a felony. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
