K9 Helps Officers Arrest Suspect After Alleged Home Burglary in Newark

NEWARK, DE — A 33-year-old Wilmington man was arrested Wednesday morning after New Castle County police responded to a reported burglary in progress at a home in the Sparrow Run community, authorities said.

According to the New Castle County Division of Police, the incident occurred just after 9:00 a.m. on October 29, when patrol officers were dispatched to Egret Court for reports of a possible break-in. Responding officers established a perimeter around the residence after learning that the suspect might still be inside.

K9 Indy and her handler were called to assist at the scene. Police said officers issued verbal commands while K9 Indy provided audible barks, prompting the suspect to exit the home and surrender without incident.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Dakeir Hall of Wilmington, was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for processing. Hall was charged with one felony count of second-degree burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $2,600 unsecured bail.

All charges are allegations, and Hall is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
