Justice Served: Philadelphia Man Faces 7 Years for Armed Carjacking Crimes

Court News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Zamir Tucker, 21, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 85 months in federal prison on Tuesday for his involvement in two armed carjackings in September 2022. United States District Court Judge Timothy J. Savage also ordered five years of supervised release and restitution of $33,483.

Tucker pleaded guilty in February 2025 to charges including conspiracy to commit carjacking, carjacking, attempted carjacking, and using a firearm during a crime of violence. He conspired with others, including co-defendant Alex Askew, to carry out the crimes.

The first incident occurred late on September 7, 2022, when Tucker and his co-conspirators threatened a 66-year-old woman at gunpoint outside her home on Wilde Avenue in Upper Darby. They demanded her keys, stole her purse, and took her Acura SUV.

On September 11, 2022, the group attempted another carjacking on Brunswick Avenue in Upper Darby. This time, they targeted a 71-year-old woman, who managed to flee and prevent the theft of her vehicle.

Askew, Tucker’s co-defendant, was sentenced to 21 years in prison in 2024 for his role in these and additional carjackings in Philadelphia.

“Nobody, let alone our mothers and grandmothers, should have to fear an armed carjacker’s ambush,” said U.S. Attorney David Metcalf. “Taking violent criminals off the street will always remain a top priority of our office.”

Special Agent Eric DeGree of the ATF Philadelphia Field Division emphasized the importance of addressing violent crime through partnerships, stating, “Carjacking is a serious crime, and we hope cases like this deter those who might try it.”

Authorities praised the collaborative effort between multiple agencies, including the Philadelphia Police Department, Upper Darby Police, ATF, and Delaware County District Attorney’s Office. “These prosecutions send a clear message: if you come into our communities to commit violent crimes, you will be caught, and you will be prosecuted,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy M. Bernhardt.
