WYOMISSING, PA — Wyomissing police officers responded to more than 20 incidents on Sunday, January 4, 2026, handling a wide mix of alleged traffic violations, domestic-related calls, property damage, animal cases, and weather-driven hazards across the borough, according to a departmental incident listing.
The day began just after midnight with hazardous road conditions along Ramp K near Route 422, where icy conditions left several tractor-trailers stuck. Officers shut down the ramp until PennDOT crews arrived to salt the roadway. Shortly afterward, police documented property damage in the same area after discovering an electronic “curve ahead” sign knocked down along the shoulder.
Throughout the early morning hours, officers conducted multiple traffic stops, issuing warnings and citations for alleged violations including registration plate issues, failure to signal, driving without headlights, expired registration, suspended registration, and driving without a valid license. In one stop near Penn Avenue and Bern Road, police reported a passenger was allegedly found in possession of marijuana, which was confiscated for destruction, while the driver received a warning.
Police also responded at approximately 2:16 a.m. to Penn Avenue near Reading Avenue for a report of a visibly intoxicated woman standing in the roadway and yelling. Officers said the woman refused medical treatment and was transported to a residence, where she was released to family care.
Later in the morning, officers were dispatched to Penn Avenue for a reported physical domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police said the male involved had already left the scene, and the female complainant declined further assistance and refused to provide her name. No further action was taken.
Additional calls throughout the day included a welfare check for a man reportedly slumped over at a shopping center who told officers he was sleeping, assistance to Shillington police in serving a protection-from-abuse order, and a disorderly conduct complaint involving a man previously trespassed from a location who was gone upon officers’ arrival.
In the afternoon, police documented a late-reported hit-and-run crash on Route 222 near Crossing Drive. No injuries were reported, and neither vehicle required towing. Officers also responded to a burglar alarm on State Hill Road that was determined to be false and handled multiple animal-related calls, including reports of a loose pit bull, a dog left unattended in a vehicle during cold temperatures, and a separate incident in which a vehicle struck and killed a dog on a Route 222 ramp. PennDOT was contacted to remove the deceased animal.
As evening approached, police handled additional traffic stops, parking complaints, a disabled vehicle along Penn Avenue, and a 911 hang-up call that was later determined to be accidental. The day concluded with an automatic fire alarm on Park Road North, where Wyomissing Fire Department personnel determined the cause to be burnt food.
All incidents described by police remain allegations or preliminary findings. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant referenced or potentially identified in connection with these matters is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
