Hockessin Man Charged After Alleged DUI Crash Seriously Injures Two in Newark

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police have charged a Hockessin man in connection with a two-vehicle crash that left two people seriously injured Saturday night in Newark.

Authorities said the collision occurred on October 11, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m. at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and Polly Drummond Hill Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a Kia Sportage was traveling northbound on Polly Drummond Hill Road when it allegedly drove through a red light and entered the intersection, where it was struck by a southbound Kia Forte.

Troopers identified the driver of the Sportage as 32-year-old Tristan Proffitt of Hockessin. Police allege that Proffitt showed signs of impairment at the scene, prompting a DUI investigation. After field sobriety testing, troopers determined that he was impaired and took him into custody without incident.

The driver of the Forte, a 40-year-old man from Middletown, and his passenger, a 21-year-old man from Newark, were both transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Proffitt was taken to Troop 6, where he was charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, and failure to stop at a red light. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.

All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
