Gunfire Reported on Route 1 Leaves Vehicle Struck Twice

SMYRNA, DE — State police are investigating a shooting early Tuesday on southbound Route 1 that left a vehicle struck by gunfire but no injuries reported.

Delaware State Police said troopers responded at approximately 5:40 a.m. on March 10 to southbound Route 1 near Exit 119 following reports of a shooting.

According to investigators, a black BMW was traveling southbound when an unknown male suspect in a light gray crossover-style SUV allegedly fired a weapon, striking the BMW twice.

Police reported that the BMW’s driver, a 46-year-old Delaware man, and a passenger were not injured.

Authorities said the suspect vehicle continued traveling southbound on Route 1 after the shooting.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.

Investigators ask anyone who witnessed the shooting or who may have information to contact Detective J. Lucyk at 302-365-8446. Tips may also be provided to Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
