NEW CASTLE, DE — A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged shooting at the Villas apartment complex on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Officers with the New Castle County Division of Police were already at the complex on an unrelated matter around 3:52 p.m. when gunshots rang out from the rear of the property. Dispatch subsequently confirmed a report of a man armed with a gun on a third-floor balcony. The suspect, identified as Brandon Anderson of New Castle, was seen holding a handgun.
Authorities secured the area, evacuated nearby residents, and activated the Crisis Management Group for negotiations. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old male had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Investigators determined the injury resulted from an earlier altercation in the complex’s courtyard, during which Anderson allegedly fired the weapon. The victim was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.
After negotiations, Anderson was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, then later charged upon release. A search of his apartment led to the recovery of a handgun.
Anderson is facing multiple charges, including Assault First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Reckless Endangering in the First Degree, and Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $146,000 cash bail.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information, video footage, or related details is encouraged to contact Detective Gino Cevallos at (302) 395-8129 or Gino.Cevallos@newcastlede.gov.
Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
