NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a tense late-night shooting that sent shoppers scrambling and left two vehicles riddled with bullet damage outside a busy convenience store.
Troopers were dispatched at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, to the Wawa at 4000 North Dupont Highway after receiving reports of shots fired. According to investigators, two men arrived at the store, parked their vehicle, and went inside. When they exited, they encountered a group of three men in the parking lot, and a confrontation allegedly broke out for reasons that remain unclear.
Police said the two men initially returned to their vehicle but later came back to the store area looking for the three individuals. Both groups eventually located one another in the parking lot, where multiple shots were fired. Authorities allege all parties fled the scene immediately after the gunfire erupted.
No injuries were reported, but two vehicles in the parking lot were struck by gunfire, leaving behind a trail of damage and unanswered questions.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting. Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact Detective M. Conway at 302-365-8411.
