Gunfire Allegation Shatters SUV Window in Wilmington, Troopers Seek Answers

WILMINGTON, DEDelaware State Police are investigating an alleged shots-fired incident Friday night that damaged a vehicle in a residential area of Wilmington but left no one injured.

According to the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit, troopers responded at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, to the 700 block of Woodside Avenue after receiving a report of a vehicle struck by gunfire.

Investigators said the preliminary investigation determined that a man driving a 2019 BMW X5 had just turned right onto Marsh Road from the Branmar Plaza shopping center parking lot, located at 1812 Marsh Road, when he heard glass shattering. The driver then observed that the rear window of the vehicle had been broken.

Police reported that the BMW sustained damage to its rear window and that a projectile was recovered from the rear of the vehicle. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Authorities said no suspect information is available at this time, and surveillance video or images related to the incident have not been obtained. The circumstances surrounding the alleged gunfire remain under investigation.
