WILMINGTON, DE — A late-night police encounter in Wilmington led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man already wanted on an outstanding warrant and the recovery of a loaded handgun, authorities said.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers with the Uniformed Services Division were patrolling the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue at approximately 11:09 p.m. on January 13 when they observed a male acting suspiciously. Officers made contact with the individual, later identified as Isaiah Moore, and took him into custody without incident.
During the encounter, police allege officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun. Investigators determined the firearm was an unfinished weapon without a serial number, commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.”
Moore was charged with possession of an unfinished firearm with no serial number and carrying a concealed deadly weapon, in addition to the outstanding warrant that prompted his arrest. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after bail was set at $5,000 cash-only.
Police did not release details regarding the nature of Moore’s outstanding warrant, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firearm remains ongoing.
All charges referenced by authorities are allegations. Moore is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
