AVONDALE, PA — A wave of investigations ranging from alleged retail thefts and impaired driving to school harassment and a bizarre snowmobile trespass at a private golf course unfolded across southern Chester County in recent weeks, according to a multi-incident release from Pennsylvania State Police Avondale.
The wide-ranging report, covering incidents from December through early January, reflects a period of unusually diverse police activity across multiple townships.
One of the most serious investigations began just after noon on December 23, when state police responded to Avon Grove High School at 10 Waltman Way in Penn Township following a report of alleged harassment involving a 13-year-old student. Troopers confirmed the report was being investigated, though no charges had been announced at the time of the release.
That same day, troopers were called to the Inniscnore Golf Club on East Avondale Road in London Grove Township after unknown individuals allegedly drove snowmobiles across the private course. Police said the activity caused damage to the grass, though the extent was described as negligible. An investigation into the reported criminal mischief is ongoing.
In East Marlborough Township, troopers were dispatched on January 2 at about 4:10 p.m. to the Walmart at 516 School House Road for an alleged retail theft. A 51-year-old woman from Kennett Square was listed as an arrestee in the case, and the store was identified as the victim. The matter remains under investigation.
State police also reported a suspected impaired-driving arrest on January 4 in New Garden Township. At approximately 7:28 p.m., troopers stopped a 2014 Nissan Sentra on U.S. Route 1 after observing alleged traffic violations. The 25-year-old Oxford man operating the vehicle was said to display signs of alcohol impairment, failed standardized field sobriety tests, and was taken into custody for chemical testing before being processed and released under court rules. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
In Elk Township, troopers were dispatched shortly after midnight on January 4 to the 100 block of Briarcroft Drive for what was described as an inactive domestic incident. A 49-year-old Oxford man and a 47-year-old woman from Silver Spring, Maryland, were listed as involved, though no arrests were reported in the incident summary.
Police also documented a theft-and-fraud investigation that began January 6 at the PSP Avondale barracks. A 68-year-old West Grove woman reported the alleged theft of her driver’s license information, prompting a formal inquiry into the matter.
Alongside the criminal investigations, troopers handled a string of traffic crashes across Chester County. On January 3, two vehicles collided in the parking lot of the Wawa at 100 Ponds Edge Drive in West Nottingham Township when one vehicle allegedly backed into another, causing minor damage but no injuries . That same day in West Fallowfield Township, a rear-end crash on Limestone Road was reported when one vehicle allegedly followed too closely and struck another, again resulting in no reported injuries.
Another crash on Doe Run Road in West Marlborough Township occurred late on January 3 when a Jeep Cherokee left the roadway and struck a fence. The driver was not injured, though the vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
Earlier, on December 28, a Kia Sportage left U.S. 1 north of Newark Road in Penn Township, striking a guide rail after allegedly drifting from its lane. Both the 76-year-old driver and passenger were not injured, though PennDOT was notified of damage to the guardrail.
Two additional December crashes were also noted. In Lower Oxford Township, a vehicle left Bethel Road on December 23 and struck a tree, sending one juvenile passenger to Dupont Hospital for treatment . In Londonderry Township on December 20, a collision between a Ford vehicle and a Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle occurred on Derry Meeting Road near Gap Newport Pike, though both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
Authorities stressed that all of the incidents detailed in the release remain subject to further investigation and that information could change as new evidence emerges. Any individuals named or described as arrestees, suspects, or defendants in these cases are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
