Firearm Theft Probe Leads to Arrest, Recovery of Stolen Handgun

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington police have arrested a city man in connection with an alleged theft of a firearm from a residence, an investigation that resulted in the recovery of a stolen handgun, authorities said.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers from the Uniformed Services Division responded around 11:58 a.m. on December 29 to the 300 block of Kennebec Street following a report of a firearm stolen from a home. Through subsequent investigative efforts, police identified 30-year-old Robert Dunnum as a possible suspect.

The following day, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers located Dunnum in the 1000 block of North Walnut Street and took him into custody without incident, police said.

During the course of the investigation, officers recovered the stolen 9mm handgun.

Dunnum has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of alleged possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, theft of a firearm, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $26,542 cash-only bail.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Dunnum is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
